Spring is already here and before you know it, it will be summer time. Drink water to cut back on unnecessary calories from sugary drinks. Soda, energy drinks, and sports drinks are a major source of added sugar and calories in American diets. To add flavor to your water, add a slice of lemon, lime, apple or fresh herbs like mint or basil. More fruits and vegetables, less sweets. In between meals, a person will often feel hungry. Reach for the healthy stuff. Snack on an apple or celery stick instead of a bag of chips. Cakes, cookies, and chips won’t curb your hunger. Even though you are eating well and exercising, you may reach a plateau where your weight stays the same. Plateaus are mainly due to decreased resting energy expenditure (REE). When you consume fewer calories, your REE decreases, thus your body’s need for energy decreases. Keep exercising and eating well to help you get through periods with no weight loss. Sometimes a plateau is the body’s way of saying that you may not need to lose more weight. Weight loss is not linear, and has complex biological consequences. A good teacher can show you alternatives for poses that are too challenging for your health or fitness level.

Moderate level aerobic activity includes activities such as brisk walking or swimming, while intense aerobic activity includes activities like running, swimming, playing sports like football and basketball etc. Health clubs, like cellphone carriers, tend to sell one- or two-year contracts, but Planet Fitness instead has a month-to-month plan, at $10 monthly, which the company believes knocks down a barrier to joining. This means different things to different people. Some people find the scale emotionally triggering, in which case, it’s not a useful tool. But research shows that other people benefit from daily or weekly weigh-ins and it doesn’t always lead to issues. In fact, studies suggest self-monitoring, which may include weigh-ins and tracking food, are predictors not only of weight loss, but maintenance, too. Your scale provides data points, allowing you to recognize small gains that might not be apparent in your clothing. Regular exercise can help you control your weight, reduce your risk of heart disease and certain cancers, and strengthen your bones and muscles. But if you haven’t exercised for some time and you have health concerns, you may want to talk to your doctor before starting a new fitness routine. A survey of over 20 different Planet Fitness locations in 12 different states revealed that they provide no nutritional guidance. They do however supply candy and pizza. Pay attention to portion size when cutting back on the number of calories consumed. Choosing sensible portions is an important factor in controlling calorie intake and managing weight.
