Food insufficiency and access to care—A 2018 study by VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System found that food insufficiency is linked to delayed access to health care and worse health outcomes in women Veterans. Food insufficiency refers to not having enough food because of a lack of money or resources. Among surveyed women Veterans, 28 percent had food insufficiency. Being food insufficient was linked to a 16 percent higher chance of delaying or missing medical care. Women with food insufficiency were also more likely to screen positive for anxiety and depression and were more likely to be in fair to poor health. Remember that fitness isn’t just about running.
